The project

How it came together

The winter bathers of Hornbæk had been changing behind a hedge for twenty years. They asked for a warm room, two showers and a place to hang wet towels, on a budget raised from bake sales and a local foundation.

The house is a simple timber box under a clay tile roof, painted in the blue and white stripes of the old beach cabins along this coast. A single door faces the path to the water, so the warm air stays inside on the coldest mornings.

It was built in eleven weekends by the members themselves, from drawings we prepared to be read by people who had never built anything before.
