Arched windows face the water and fill the spruce lined hall with evening light.

The project
How it came together
Fjordlys gives a growing community its first purpose built mosque. They asked for something unmistakably a place of prayer, yet quiet enough to sit among the boathouses along the shore.
The answer is a low prayer hall under a single shallow timber dome, with a slender minaret beside it marking the mosque from the water. Arched windows face the fjord, and the hall is lined in pale spruce that glows when the evening light comes off the water.
The outer skin is a stained fibre cement panel in deep fjord blue, fixed with visible stainless steel bolts so that every panel can be replaced by hand.
